Martha is a former Legal Services attorney who dedicated her career to social justice. After her eight years at Legal Services, she directed the Incarcerated Mothers Law Project at the Women’s Prison Association in New York City, where she supervised volunteer attorneys who provided legal advocacy and counseling to incarcerated mothers on custody and child welfare issues at Rikers Island and two New York State women’s prisons.
At the Center for the Study of Social Policy Martha led the monitoring of two states’ child welfare reforms intended to improve outcomes for children, youth, and families, including developing and drafting court ordered semiannual and annual public reports. Martha also has experience conducting child welfare reviews in multiple states involving the analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data. She has extensive experience analyzing policies at the local, state, and federal level that affect low income children, youth, and families.
